Magicjack I Elect To Accept Free Outgoing Service Provider
Hello,I just purchased a Magic Jack Plus through the 48 hour ½ off sale. I bought it primarily for the ability to use it without needed my computer on to use the Magic Jack. I have had a normal Magic Jack for about a year and a half now with no issues. I received it this afternoon and set it up on my computer first, so that I could register. I’m fairly sure that was required anyway, but I wanted to make sure to transfer my old number. I registered the Magic Jack Plus itself and transferred my old Magic Jack phone number to the new box through the registration process.
Now, whenever I try to call I cannot connect to an outside line. I can receive calls just fine, I’ve tried it with my cell phone and other phones, both landlines and cell phones, on different carriers, and I can hear others and they can hear me normally. In fact I just had a phone call with someone else for over 10 minutes long without any issue.
However whenever I try to dial out I get no luck. I do receive a dial tone, but there’s sometimes a faint clicking type of noise in the background. When I go to the Magic Jack application on my computer to dial a number, it seems to fail the call instantly, the number barely shows up on the field that has by default ‘Enter Number Here to Call’ before it’s wiped clean less than a second later, whether it’s one of my contacts, or whether I’ve typed it in, as soon as I attempt to dial, it seems to instantly try and fail. I’ve tried this with my normal phone that has worked with Magic Jack for over a year and a half, but I’ve also tried it with an old wired phone to see if that was the problem, but no luck. No matter what it seems to fail before it tries, with no ringing on the other end.
I’ve tried this with the Magic Jack plugged into the computer, and plugged directly into the wall and the router. When plugged directly into the router it will get a dial tone, but once I attempt a call it seems to fail instantly. My ISP is with Charter, the modem goes into a wireless router, which goes into a switch, I’ve plugged the Magic Jack Plus into the router, which the diagram that came with the packaging told me to. I have windows xp home with service pack 3 and all the latest updates. I have also tried disabling wireless to no avail. Also tried unintalling/reinstalling it as well.
Can anyone offer any help at all? I’ve heard less than stellar reviews of the Magic Jack support staff so I figured I’d try here first. If there’s any other information I can supply I’m more than happy to. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
